The office of the beast

is it purely coincidence that it's always the same temperature in my office?

Too cool for school?

Nearly every school in the county and the two surrounding today shut down because it was too cold. I'm all for not endangering the lives of children, but I have to call bullshit on this one.

The funny part is, this is count week for Dayton public schools. That means that the schools have gone as far as purchasing tv and radio time to urge you to make sure your children are in school every day this week, as the attendance rate will affect the amount of funding that each school gets. So, I'm curious if this "cold day" will affect funding for all of the schools that closed.

I never had to walk uphill through 3 feet of snow in my day, but our school's superintendent was from fucking Alaska, so we were lucky to get a snow day on a level 3 emergency. Certainly no cold days. I can understand maybe to a certain extent - pre-school, kindergarten and even elementary schools, but junior high and high school? I know they don't really have the option of closing one and not the other, but these kids need to suck it up. In the next couple of years when these high school students are at college, and they have to walk 3/4 of a mile from the liberal arts building to the engineering building, all downwind, like some of us had to - they're not going to get a cold day. Sure, they could just stay home, but most professors won't have mercy on them and just give them a zero for that day. Hell, some profs will even give an open book quiz that day just to shame you for being such a baby.

We are raising a nation of nancies.
